10000000000

V zadnjih dneh bivše Juge je bil lahko vsakdo miljarder. Pa vseeno ni imel za burek.

20 let kasneje se zgodba ponavlja. Razen miljard.

In ex-Yugoslavia's final days everyone could be a billionaire. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean one was also rich, though.

20 years later the story repeats itself. Except for the billions.

Flight back

A bit corny, right? Nevertheless, it rounds up the story of IPhO well - it started in black and white in a morning rush towards the airport, it ends in beautiful colors of the setting sun somewhere between Germany and Slovenia. And what a ride it was ;)

Frankfurt

Only about an hour away from home. Feelings? Mixed.

IPhO 2012 - Harry Kroto, closing ceremony and a group portrait

Let's start at the end - with the gold medalists, quite simply because a group photo of them celebrating their success seems suitable to open today's post. What follows are photos from the inspiring lecture of '96 Nobel Prize Winner Harry Kroto, some additional scenes from the closing ceremony and a group portrait of our team for the very end.

IPhO 2012 - Rakvere & AHAA

View of the medieval Rakvere castle
My blog posts are not going to make a classic report on IPhO 2012. After all, the latter if foremost a physics competition while I don't have any photos of the actual competition - no, not even a single one. First of all, we weren't allowed to bring anything but the officially approved calculator and some pencils to the actual competition. Attempting to do otherwise would almost certainly result in disqualification of the whole team, which would be... well, you name it. Secondly, had I taken the camera with me, I should have left it on the bus for the whole duration of the competition. Again, it would only be an additional concern.

Anyway, this post shows photos from medieval Rakvere Castle and from AHAA science centre.

IPhO 2012 - the journey and day 1

I've decided to split the story of IPhO into several smaller posts - starting with the one about our journey and the first day spent in Tallinn. As the photo above implies, Sunday of 15th July started pretty early for us - with a morning rush towards the Jože Pučnik Airport (I'll probably never get used to the name, though...)

IPhO 2012 - Life in Tallin & Tartu

As promised, here comes a slightly longer post with street photos of Tallinn and Tartu - not too long, though, as photography was not among mine prime concerns during the week spent up there ;)
